Important Department of Agriculture Update for Exhibitors of Cattle

Specific Requirements – Cattle

From the 2013 Show season, the following applies:

  • Keepers of cattle must obtain a Certificate of Compliance before moving animals to a show.
  • Certificates can be obtained via www.agfood.ie or the Cattle Movement Notification Agency.
  • Do not specify a destination herd when applying.
  • On the show day, present the Certificate and passport to the show secretary.
  • The keeper and secretary will sign the Movement Notification, then send it to the DVO.
  • Only cattle with a valid Certificate of Compliance will be shown.
  • Certificates replace CMMS 4 forms.

Safety Regulations on Show Day

  1. Do not exhibit animals that are out of control or hard to handle.
  2. Do not leave animals unattended, tied to horse boxes or trailers.
  3. All animals must be led by a competent handler.
  4. Animals must remain under control at all times.

Prizes: 1st: €80, 2nd: €50, 3rd: €30 (unless otherwise stated). Entry Fee: €10

    Rules and Conditions

    1. This competition is open to all Continental genotype 4* or 5* breeding heifers, suitable to make a suckler cow.
    2. Full UWR form must be submitted with entry to ensure that genotype rating can be verified.
    3. Heifers may be in calf or maiden. All heifers must be between 12 months and 24 months of age on the date of the show.
    4. A maximum of two heifers may be exhibited at up to five shows. If a heifer enters more than five shows, any further prize money will be forfeited.
    5. All heifers must be halter-trained and led by a competent handler.
    6. The foregoing rules should be read in conjunction with ISA General Rules.
